"Wow". That is about all I was able to say for several hours after witnessing myself on CNN; The news that I grew up watching, is now watching me!

First off I'd like to give a huge thanks to each and everyone of you that continues to participate in PlateWire. The response has been wonderful and we are glad that we are able to develop something that people find useful, something that is producing positive results!

Please note, that currently it is just myself (That will be changing in the very near future!), and I know there are some minor bugs here and there; I am working day and night to upgrade the site to handle all of the demand. Please keep the feedback coming, I make it a point to read each and every comment, and respond to as many as humanly possible.

To answer a few common questions:

  • How do you plan to moderate PlateWire? -  I am developing a community driven system which will allow registered users to "Flag" other users behavior, such as offensive or rude comments or wires. If said user receives X "Flags" from the community, their account will be suspended, and all of their input will be made invisible.
  • Some users complain about the registration process -The steps are outlined in the registration page, but we do agree it can be a little confusing for some. We are developing template based registration procedures, which will be geared toward novice or advanced web surfers, which should clarify this.
  • Do I have to register my Plate to use PlateWire? - No, you can choose to register as a pedestrian or a cyclist, which does not require that you register your plate. Plate registration serves mainly for the purposes of notification if your plate has received a wire.

To one and all, Happy Holidays, may they be safe and merry!

Mark,

Wishing your site all the success in the world my good man.

However. . .

How about making your site something a little more "teen" driver friendly. You have an opportunity here not only to make a big pile of money, but a chance to make the world a little better place.

So go easy on the dating ads and hurry up and clean up the bad language. You are working with the general public now and for some folks the first words they learned to write started with "f" and they stopped learning there.

You know a number of years ago a guy in California had web site called "Jerk de Jour" where he posted pictures unbelievable examples of questionable driving behavior.

I would recommend to you (as your unpaid legal counsel) to drop the license plate numbers: you don't know if that driver owns the car, is in the middle of some "life event" or if that plate number is even close to the "actual" plate number. You may be engaging in libelous hearsay. Having been in the trucking business all my life, I have learned people do not call in an accident to the trucking company that they were involved in a collision with; they call in the accident to the company with the first name they can read on the truck.

I can almost guarantee you with your first million dollars will be your first two million dollar lawsuit resulting in you going back to hacking code for the man at $150 per day.

Secondly, in most large urban areas up to half of the drivers are unlicensed. Every state has many more registered vehicles then licensed drivers.

Thirdly, driving safety is NOT a concern of most DMVs. In Michigan the DMV has guards in a number of branches to protect the State workers, whom are happy to make it home without getting a broken nose. They are supposed to give written tests in fifty-two languages but have found it faster to just give the answers in English; the line stays shorter that way. Ditto for the CDL test.

Fourthly, NO training is required to drive a tractor-trailer. Texas requires an "entry-level" certificate for truck drivers; the actual training is optional. In any case about 1 of ten truck drivers actually gets any formal training - most truck driver training is incidental training (i.e. post-accident). The DOT like it this way - it gives them statistics to massage and update each year.

Fifthly, we were no 1 in traffic safety 30 years ago. Then Congress created the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration so now we are about number fourteen and falling. (This is no joke).

Good luck and God bless you Mark. Wish you a great 2007!!

Hello Mark,

There are online services which provide a means to find out a persons name and address based on license plate number. When reporting someone else's license number this probably never comes to mind, but for a driver that has been reported they may wish to seek revenge. If that other driver has your license too, perhaps he/she was tailgating you or otherwise had opportunity to note your plate, then they could perform a search for a fee to find our your address. Who knows far it could escalate from there.

I suggest that you add functionality to platewire.com to allow a user to edit or remove any entries that was made in that user's account.

In my case, the other driver may have recorded my plate, and now I regret having posted about this pschyo since I realized he could discover my info. I have reason to believe that if the other person saw my posting about him on platewire that he might seek retribution.

Please add DELETE functionality!

Thank you,
